OCTOBER 9, DISTRICT IN-SERVICE INFORMATION

Posted Date: 10/07/26 (10:00 AM)

On Friday, October 9, Astoria School District staff will participate in a full-day professional development designed to enhance instruction and support for all students.

Across elementary, middle, and high schools, certified teachers and specialists will focus on key initiatives, including literacy training and Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching. Secondary teachers will spend time reviewing instructional strategies to integrate into upcoming unit planning, while specialist teams, including counselors, P.E., music, and English Language Development teachers, will collaborate on specialized initiatives and family support services.

Meanwhile, our instructional assistants will spend the morning engaging in targeted training on behavior management strategies and responsive teaching practices. Special education teachers, language specialists, and instructional assistants will meet directly in their classrooms to plan collaboratively for student needs. Transportation and library personnel will also participate in localized professional development and departmental planning sessions.

This dedicated district-wide in-service day ensures our educators return to the classroom equipped with updated strategies, coordinated team plans, and dedicated preparation to best serve our Astoria students

On October 9, 2026, there will be no school for Astoria students.
