This is the image for the news article titled 2017-2018 Food Service Prices

Each year Astoria School District staff reviews the food service program to ensure that we are providing healthy meals to all students while remaining financially responsible. Due to the high poverty rate of students within our elementary schools, all elementary students in the Astoria School District have received free breakfast and lunch each day for the past two years. In review of this program, the District concluded that it is not receiving adequate reimbursements to maintain the free program so that it is financially feasible.

Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, all students in the elementary school will continue to receive free breakfast, but students who do not qualify for free or reduced meals will need to pay for lunches.  Astoria School District has revised meal prices for all schools to begin the 2017-2018 school year. The new meal prices for the 2017-2018 school year are:

Parents at each grade level will be asked to complete a meal eligibility form in the fall during orientation. We are asking all parents in the district to complete the form, regardless of eligibility. The meal eligibility form not only provides the District information concerning meals, but helps to generate data we can utilize in order to provide additional opportunities to our students.  Below are a few examples of how the meal eligibility form is used:

  • Meal eligibility information is used to qualify the District for grants. This year the Astoria School District received two equipment grants for cooking equipment; the district was eligible based on meal eligibility of our students.
  • When students at Astoria High School complete the meal eligibility form and meet the qualification requirements, they also become eligible for free SAT or ACT tests as well as fee waivers for completing college applications.
  • Meal eligibility forms are used to gain funding levels for our students with federal programs.

The meal eligibility forms will be included in the 2017-2018 student orientation packets for each school. Your help with completing this information is greatly appreciated.

Astoria School District is dedicated to providing a quality food service program for our students.  Please feel free to contact Superintendent Hoppes if you have any questions at 503.325.6441.
